Renewable Energy

Congress continues to debate the details of a possible Renewable Electricity Standard (RES). The RES draft bill in the Senate has provisions acceptable to private forestry, but is not perfect. The House draft bill completely excludes private forestry. At this time, it is not clear if an RES has enough support to pass. FLA is not supporting the passage of an RES, but promotes the great need for the broadest possible definition of forest biomass in any RES.
FLA and 60 allies sent the following letters to Congress regarding the need for the broadest possible definition of forest biomass in an RES. Follow the link below for a copy of this letter.

Congressional Letter

A positive outcome is most dependent upon the grassroots support of private forest landowners. FLA and its allies continue to communicate to Congress the need for a good definition, but Congress may act only if they see significant support from America's private forest landowners in the form of grassroots action.
