Preparing for the Pivotal 2012 Elections

Providing access and a voice for private forest landowners in the U.S. Congress is top priority. Employing a strategic approach, we are focusing on key legislators who have a strong influence on private forest landowner issues. To that end, FLA CEO Scott Jones has been working with Government Affairs and Communications Consultant, Melinda Gable to elevate the profile and status of private forest landowners and management issues to intensify FLA’s presence in Washington, D.C.

In January, a great connection was made with Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan. As Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and member of the Senate Energy, Finance, and Budget Committees, she has a powerful role in shaping our nation’s policies on issues vitally important to you.

Following Scott’s visit, Senator Stabenow’s office requested specific information on our position for the first hearing on the 2012 Farm Bill. The request was met with a quick response by FLA and our positions were very well received. The letter can be viewed on the FLA website.

FLA's visible leadership as an advocate for private forest landowners in Washington, DC is paying dividends and bolstering the awareness of key issues that impact your ability to own and manage your property. But we need your support to continue our success.

One misguided bill or regulation could do long-term harm to your resources, your profitability and your property rights. With every member of the U.S. House of Representatives and 33 members in the U.S. Senate up for re-election in November, the 2012 elections have the potential to greatly impact private forests landowners. Increased presence on Capitol Hill, coupled with a Political Action Committee that is well-funded and “tuned in” to the political process can make a difference.

There are two ways for you to become a partner in this process.

1. Make a cash contribution to the FLA PAC today.
2. Contribute to the Live Auction that will be held on May 31 at the 2012 National Conference of Private Forest Landowners held in Ponte Vedra, Florida.

We have set an aggressive course of action for 2012. We hope you'll join us in leading the charge for private forests landowners in Washington, DC, by contributing to the FLA-PAC by sending in your cash contribution and/or donation to the FLA-PAC Live Auction.

Note—Please be aware that contributions to the FLA PAC will be used in connection with federal elections. Contributions are subject to limitations of the Federal Elections Campaign Act and are not tax deductible. Corporate checks are not allowed. The FLA is a non-partisan organization that supports candidates from any political party based on the candidates voting record on private landownership legislation, their leadership positions, and other strategic parameters.
