Forestry Related Appropriations
Position Statement:
The Fiscal Year 2006 budget blueprint was proposed by the Administration on February 7, 2005. The following measures are supportable to ensure adequate funding of important programs benefiting private forest landowners.
Emerging Pests and Pathogens Fund. Landowner groups support the creation of this fund, and the administration's FY ’05 funding request of $10,000,000. This fulfills the promise of research funding by the Healthy Forests Restoration Act, Title IV: Insect Infestation and Related Diseases.
McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry. The Cooperative Forestry Research Program (McIntire-Stennis Act) supports long-term research and scientist training efforts at the nation’s public land-grant universities and colleges. Currently, seek at least a ten percent increase over FY2005 levels, to a FY2006 appropriations level of $24, 425,000.
Renewable Resources Extension Act. This is the nation's leading forestry extension program, tackling critical forestry and related natural resources extension and stewardship needs in states, while also addressing critical issues of forest management for productivity and environmental quality on non-federal private forestlands. Currently, seek the Congress to fund the program at the Administration’s level of $4.093 million, which is a slight increase over the FY04 and FY05 funding levels.
