Clean Water Restoration Act
The Clean Water Restoration Act (S. 787-Feingold) recently passed the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee by a 12-7 vote, despite opposition from FLA and many other broad ranging organizations. FLA has been informed the bill will likely be voted on by the full Senate sometime this year; however it remains unclear when this will happen.
FLA is in communication with allies in the Senate to ensure a timely response once this bill is scheduled for a floor vote. FLA members should be prepared for an Action Alert on this issue.
By changing the jurisdiction in the existing Clean Water Act, S. 787, the Clean Water Restoration Act would greatly expand the jurisdiction of the Clean Water Act to include all waters of the U.S. This would include any wet area in the U.S. and could subject private forest landowners to federal permitting requirements for forest management activities.
