RFS Wood Biomass Definition

Senator John Thune recently introduced a bill into the Senate correcting the flawed wood biomass definition passed in the 2007 Energy Bill. The language is the same as found in the FLA endorsed U.S. House bill sponsored by Rep. Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin. The bill would change the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) to include all plants and trees. This is important because American private forest landowners need new markets for their wood. Allowing all private forest landowners to use some of their trees for energy production will create the financial incentive to prevent undesired land-use change.
