The State of the Association

As the second session of the 112th Congress commenced in mid-January, FLA was walking the halls of Congress, meeting with House and Senate leadership committee staff.

It remains to be seen if lawmakers can make progress towards sending legislation to the President for signature during what is expected to be months of political posturing leading up to the November elections.

FLA CEO Scott Jones commented on his visits last  week stating “We are strengthening

our relationships with congressional staff to better serve as a resource and draw the importance of sustaining forests by sustaining the people who own them into their sight of visibility in congress”.

FLA serves as a trusted and respected source of information for key committees with jurisdiction over legislation impacting management and ownership of your forestlands.

For the remaining days of the112th Congress FLA is  actively engaged in the following

legislative issues that impact your forest lands:

 ♦ Death Tax

 ♦ Forest RoadsPrivate

 ♦ Property Rights Protection Act

 ♦ Farm Bill

 ♦ Canadian Lumber

Our key message to policy makers in 2012 is the following:

FLA sustains forests by sustaining those that own them.

Since 1941, when FLA was founded, our mission and guiding purpose has and always will remain the same
–to protect and advocate for all private forest landowners across the country-regardless of size, corporate structure, location, certification status, or tax classification.

Our efforts to protect, promote, and advocate for private landowners expand beyond lobbying for property rights to telling their story to policy makers in terms of economic impact, jobs created, family legacy and great stewards of the resource.

We look forward to serving all private forest landowners across this country in 2012 and would like to thank you for your support of this great association.
