Broadcast live from the studios of Clemson University to interested locations throughout the South
Cooperative Extension Service foresters in the Southern Region have recently completed coordinating the development of the 2007 Master Tree Farmer Satellite & Internet Mini-Series program. This shortcourse is designed for landowners, forestry association members, Extension agents, county foresters, and others who find themselves dealing with the subject of preparing the forest and forestland for the next owner. Agenda topics include:
• Understanding heir property and having a clear title
• Basics on how real estate passes
• Basic estate planning with a focus on forestland options
• Intergenerational transfer strategies
• Conservation easements
• Charitable giving
• Generation skipping options
• Shared ownerships and family limited partnerships and property transfer issues
The sessions are hosted by regional and national experts and include the opportunity for audience interaction via toll free and internet call in options.
Interested parties have many options available to them for participation. Anyone interested should call their local county Extension office or state forestry agency office (located in the blue pages of their phone book) to see if the course is already scheduled for their area. Participants are also encouraged to work with their county/state Extension or state forestry office to host a local program if one is not already scheduled for their area. Fees vary by state but due to sponsorship and in-kind services they have been priced very reasonably each year since 2000. Fees include access to the satellite/internet program, notebook and speaker note materials, and other local costs associated with hosting the program.
County agents, state forestry agency/association foresters and anyone else interested in working at the local level to host a site or have any related questions are encouraged to contact Bill Hubbard (706) 542-7813 or (706) 340-5070 (whubbard@uga.edu) or George Kessler at (864) 656-4836 or (864) 608-4040 (gksslr@clemson.edu) for more details. In addition, the shortcourse website will contain valuable information, including state contacts, as it becomes available.
