Gopher Tortoise Mitigation is an up and coming opportunity for private landowners who manage their land for diverse uses such as timber, wildlife, aesthetics or recreation. The gopher tortoise recipient site permit program has the potential to provide monetary incentives for landowners who have suitable gopher tortoise habitat, and who are willing to manage that habitat for benefit of the species. Workshop presenters will discuss the habitat and management that is required to sustain the tortoises; provide details on the current rules that are in effect for relocating and receiving displaced tortoises; and discuss the potential income associated with becoming a certified recipient site.
