Program Summary: The Firewise Community program is a partnership between state and local government agencies, emergency management officials, planners, developers, and others to resolve community growth issues in the wildland-urban interface, particularly fire. This workshop is an opportunity for landowners to learn about Florida’s Firewise program, how to protect property from wildfire, and to discuss the wider issues associated with the use of prescribed fire in an expanding urban fringe. Presenters and panelists will discuss development planning strategies that can mitigate the effects of wildfire and account for the continued use of prescribed fire. Other possible topics will be insurance rates, the outlook for the future and developing effective relationships with neighbors so that prescribed fire can continue to be used.
