CapWiz Action Alert: Renewable Electricity Standard

Congress Needs To Hear From You
Press the Take Action button to forward an important message to your members of Congress.

Last week, FLA asked you to contact your members of Congress and request that they co-sponsor and support a bill to correct the 2007 Energy bill language and allow all private forestland the opportunity to participate in the production of renewable fuel. Thank you for your response. If you haven't yet forwarded that message to your members of Congress from FLA's CapWiz program, there is still time.

Today, FLA is asking you to again forward an important message to your members of Congress, this time asking them to ensure an inclusive definition of forest biomass in a Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) being considered by Congress. FLA does not seek a Renewable Electricity Standard, but Congress is currently considering such legislation and if this happens, the broadest possible definition of forest biomass should be included.

A Renewable Electricity Standard is a mandate currently being considered by congress, which would require utility companies to produce a specified amount of electricity from renewable sources. As we all know, wood is a cost effective and efficient renewable energy source that can be made into electricity. Unfortunately, there are those who do not fully understand forestry, but have made it their mission to limit the energy market for wood through U.S. energy policy. As America's private forest landowners, we need you to speak up to tell Congress that the opposition is dead WRONG and to make sure Congress includes all private forestland in any energy legislation promoting renewable energy.
