2012 Annual Outstanding Landowners Recognized

As illustrated by this year’s Landowner Panel at the FLA’s annual conference, private forest landowners come from all walks of life, and their contributions and involvement vary tremendously. However, there are a few who truly excel in their chosen fields of endeavor. It is the job of the FLA Awards Committee (chaired by Scott Rowland of Neill Forestry Consultants in Magnolia, Arkansas) to sort through the many well qualified candidates and make the difficult decisions on recipients for these special awards. This year’s slate of winners are a special group, and we congratulate each on them on a job well done!

Forest Landowner of the Year
Rose Lane Leavell

Bullard, Georgia

The award criteria state that this individual is an FLA member in good standing who has owned forest land for a minimum of 10 years. The award requires the winner to perform outreach or promotion of landownership and/or forestry and is involved in advocacy of forest landowner concerns. Rose Lane Leavell, the 2012 Forest Landowner of the Year exemplifies all of the qualities with her active involvement in the management her families Tree Farm, Charlane Plantation, in Bullard, Georgia. The plantation has received twelve conservation and forestry awards including the 1999 National Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year Award. This is the highest award given by the Forest Landowners Association and we’re proud to recognize Rose Lane’s accomplishments.

The Corporate Member Award
Pennington Seed

Madison, Georgia

Corporate Members are affiliated companies who are not necessarily landowners, but closely aligned to private forest landowner interests. The investment at the corporate level helps support and enhance landowner member programs and enables the association to be more effective advocates for private landowners.

This year’s Corporate Award Winner is Pennington Seed headquartered in Madison, Georgia. Through more than two decades of research and development, Pennington has been a leader in the field of wildlife management. Pennington Seed has been producing quality food plot seed and fertilizer as well as providing advice and expertise to private landowners interested in maximizing wildlife habitat. John Carpenter of Pennington Seed was present to receive the award.
